Human blood is red due to the iron content
Crabs have blue blood because their blood contains copper instead of iron
Leeches have green blood because their blood contains chlorocruorin
Blood makes up about 7% of your body weight
The average human body contains about 10 pints of blood
Blood has a very prominent place within the three religions born in the Middle East. The Jews were instructed to offer animal sacrifices to God in the Old Testament. Every year on the Day of Atonement the priest would enter the temple and sprinkle blood from the sacrifice on the altar. In the same way, Christians understand that the blood of Jesus has been shed for their salvation. The veil of the temple was torn when Jesus died; we now have direct access to the throne of God through the blood of Jesus. In Islam, the “religion of peace” has spilled the blood of Christians and Jews since the rise of Mohammed. But there is so much more in the Bible about blood that we should know about.
The first mention of blood in the Bible is in Genesis chapter 4. After Cain killed Abel, God asked Cain where his brother was. God told Cain “the voice of your brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground.” (Gen. 4:10) This idea of our blood crying out to the Creator is carried out to the last book in the Bible.
“When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained; and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” (Rev. 6: 9-10)
The Law of the Old Testament instructed Jews not to eat flesh with the blood still in it.
For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement.’ (Lev 17:11)
Even the land of Israel itself was affected by blood. God gave the Jews some very important instructions regarding the land He was about to bring them into. God told the Jews not to spill innocent blood in the land.
“So you shall not pollute the land in which you are; for blood pollutes the land and no expiation can be made for the land for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of him who shed it.”(Number 35:33)
“So innocent blood will not be shed in the midst of your land which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance, and bloodguiltiness be on you.” (Deut. 19:10)
The Law of the Old Testament outlined some very important guidelines in regards to blood. The first instructions had to do with spilling of innocent blood. “Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man.” (Genesis 9:6)
Numbers chapter 35 provides guidelines for the avenger of blood. “The blood avenger himself shall put the murderer to death; he shall put him to death when he meets him.”
The Law provided that the blood avenger was not just entitled to pursue the murderer and take his life, he was obligated to do it. It was the only way the land could be cleansed.
God Himself takes on the roll of blood avenger throughout the Bible. In fact, the burden of the blood avenger has been shifted from man to God Himself, the ultimate blood avenger.
“You shall strike the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the Lord, at the hand of Jezebel.” (2 Kings 9:7)
“Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.” (Rom. 12:19)
One day soon Jesus, our blood avenger, will return to the earth. He will come and avenge those who have had their blood spilled by the false religion of Islam. This great mother of all harlots has been responsible for taking peace from the earth and poisoning the land.
“…BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE AMOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH…And I saw the woman drunk with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus. (Rev:17:5-6)
Isaiah 63 highlights the return of the Holy One of Israel, Jesus. He is coming from Edom, which is the modern area of Jordan and Saudi Arabia. He is majestic in His appearance, and His robe is drenched in blood. Verse 3 says “their lifeblood is sprinkled on My garments.”
Have you ever noticed the judgments listed in the book of Revelation? Many of the judgments deal with blood. The seas are turned to blood, the rivers are turned to blood, hail stones and fire is mixed with blood. There is a reason for this. Our blood avenger is exacting His revenge.
“Then the third angel poured out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of waters; and they became blood. And I heard the angel of the waters saying, “Righteous are You, who are and who were, O Holy One, because You judged these things; for they poured out the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink. They deserve it.” And I heard the altar saying, “Yes, O Lord God, the Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments.” (Rev. 16: 4-7)
Joel 3 gives a very detailed account of Jesus return and why He is exacting judgment.
“Egypt will become a waste,
And Edom will become a desolate wilderness,
Because of the violence done to the sons of Judah,
In whose land they have shed innocent blood.
But Judah will be inhabited forever And Jerusalem for all generations.
And I will avenge their blood which I have not avenged, For the Lord dwells in Zion.” (Joel 3:19-20)
Revelation 19 describes the return is Christ in all His glory. Again we are reminded what He accomplished.
“because His judgments are true and righteous; for He has judged the great harlot who was corrupting the earth with her immorality, and He has avenged the blood of His bond-servants on her.” (Rev 19:2)
The reason Jesus is coming back in wrath is because of the innocent blood that is being spilled by this harlot, or false religion, Islam. He is coming to avenge His people who have remained faithful to the end. He is going to give them their just reward. Come Lord Jesus, Come!
