One Verse That Explains A Lot

IMG_0587

Can one verse in the Bible give clues to how the flood of Noah could have been a global event, how groups of people settled on different continents, and how nearly every culture has a worldwide flood story? The answer to this question may surprise you.

Let’s go all the way back to the creation account in Genesis to lay the foundation work. Let’s look at Gen 1:9-10:

9 Then God said, “Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. 10 God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good.

The Bible explains in chapter 6 that all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. God chose to destroy the earth using a flood. Scholars have debated whether or not the flood was a global event or just a localized flood. I am of the opinion that the flood was a global event, more on that later.

God told Noah to build an ark and get his family and a whole bunch of animals and get in the ark. So, Noah and his sons, Ham, Shem, and Japheth, grabbed their wives and climbed aboard the ark for the first ever-Mediterranean cruise. Apparently, it was a pretty big event.

Check out these verses from chapter 7:

19 The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens were covered.

20 The water prevailed fifteen cubits higher, and the mountains were covered.

21 All flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind;

God gave Noah and his sons very specific instructions upon disembarking from their cruise. God Blessed Noah and his sons and told them to be “fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.” God established a covenant with them and gave them the sign of the covenant. God’s bow (rainbow) is a sign for all creatures for all successive generations that He will not destroy the earth with a flood ever again.

Genesis chapter 10 breaks down the descendants of each of the sons of Noah. The descendants of Shem ultimately brought forth Abraham the father of the Jews. But a little incident happened between the flood and the call of Abraham that had profound effects on the world. The results of this event are evident even today.

A group of descendants from Ham traveled to Babel and settled in Shinar. They either forgot, ignored, or didn’t get the memo that they were supposed to be fruitful and multiply and “fill the earth.” Genesis chapter 11 records the story:

4 They said, “Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”

I thought that was the whole idea. Needless to say, God was not happy about the turn of events and decided to do something about it.

7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.” 8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped building the city. 9 Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of the whole earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of the whole earth.

Here is where it gets kind of interesting. The descendants of Shem are listed in Verses 10 through 26 of Genesis chapter 11. Remember, the line goes from Shem down to Abraham, or Abram as he was know before God gave him his walking papers. Abram’s great, great, great, grandfather was a man named Peleg. Not much is known about Peleg, but he is listed in another verse, Genesis 10:25, with a very interesting comment associated with him.

25 Two sons were born to Eber; the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.

The Hebrew word for divide is palag. It is a verb that means, “to divide or split apart.”

So let’s summarize. When God created the world he gathered the water in one place, and then dry land appeared. God called the dry land earth. God instructs Noah and his sons to be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. Some descendants of Ham decided to stay put and build a city and skyscraper, lest they be scattered over the face of the earth. God confuses their language and sends them over the face of the whole earth. At some point between the Tower of Babel and the birth of Abram, the earth was divided.

Several items seem very obvious to me. If there was one giant hunk of land (the face of the earth), it only makes sense that it was a global flood. If the waters rose above the highest mountains, it would have to cover the land entirely. Also, God instructed Noah to fill the earth. They would be unable to accomplish this if oceans already separated the large pieces of landmass. It would be much easier to fill the earth if the entire earth was accessible. It would be easy for various people groups to relocate and settle. These cultures would begin to develop independently once the land divided and they were unable to have close contact with others. It is interesting to realize that many of these generations of people overlapped due to the long lives that they lived during that time. Stories would have been passed down to each generation through oral story telling. There is no doubt that the integrity of the story was changed over time, but it is interesting to see how the information would have been passed down.

Some might argue that continental drift at the present rates would have taken millions of years. I would argue that it is a huge assumption to make that the rates have remained constant. If one pushes a raft away from the shore of a lake it initially moves rather quickly. Over a period of time it slows down and drifts rather slowly. I contend that the division of the land was conducted in a similar fashion. I believe the initial separation happened at a mush faster rate than the current rates of continental drift, after all, the Bible says the division of the earth happened during the time of Peleg’s life. I am always amazed at God’s appreciation for scientific detail.

“The Inconsistencies of Mohammed and Allah’s Book”…or “The Moronic Qur’anic Islamic Conundrum”

text21

You will never convince individuals that hold the Qur’an “near and dear to their hearts” that the Bible is more reliable than the Qur’an by relying on archeological evidence or textual criticism. The Qur’an devotees have been conditioned to view the Bible as a book that has been corrupted in the 1st century and is, therefore, unreliable. The truth of the matter is that there is plenty of evidence in the Qur’an itself that shows the Bible to be a reliable source. A few simple questions to the Qur’an devotees should cause them to question what they believe, or cause death and destruction to those in the vicinity.

One would think that the followers of Islam were made of glass. When confronted with challenging questions about the Qur’an, Islamists tend to shatter and fall apart. They try to silence critics by claiming Islamophobia or slander, and pitching fits by trying to destroy as much property and injure as many people as possible. It would seem this is counterproductive, unless one is trying to silence all critics and push forward an illogical and untruthful ideology and agenda.

Consider a few facts. Jesus warns us in Matthew 7:15 to beware of false prophets. In Matthew 24:11 He warns that false prophets will come and mislead many. Paul warns that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). Paul warns us that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is so unique that even if an angel from heaven comes and preaches a different gospel, contrary to what Paul has taught, let him be accursed. Mohammed would have been wise to heed these warnings.

It might surprise you to find that the Qur’an teaches the following about Jesus.

According to the Qur’an:

Qur’an 3:46 (Jesus born of a virgin)

She (Mary) said: My Lord! How can I have a child when no mortal hath touched me? He said: So (it will be). Allah createth what He will. If He decreeth a thing, He saith unto it only: Be! and it is.

Qur’an 3:48  (Jesus performed miracles)

And will make him a messenger unto the Children of Israel, (saying): Lo! I come unto you with a sign from your Lord. Lo! I fashion for you out of clay the likeness of a bird, and I breathe into it and it is a bird, by Allah’s leave. I heal him who was born blind, and the leper, and I raise the dead, by Allah’s leave. And I announce unto you what ye eat and what ye store up in your houses. Lo! herein verily is a portent for you, if ye are to be believers.

3:45 (Jesus is the Messiah)

And remember) when the angels said: O Mary! Lo! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a word from him, whose name is the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, illustrious in the world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought near (unto Allah).

That is where the similarities between the Bible and Qur’an end. The Qur’an begins to teach a different gospel that denies the deity of Christ, His crucifixion, and His resurrection, cornerstones of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

According to the Qur’an:

Qur’an 5:116-117 Jesus is not divine.

Qur’an 4:157 Jesus did not die on a cross.

Qur’an 4:158 Jesus did not rise from the dead.

Qur’an 10:68 Jesus is not God’s Son.

According to the Bible:

1 John 2:22 Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.

1 John 4:3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.

2 John 1:7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist.

Despite the Qur’an’s departure from the True Gospel of Jesus Christ, It is fascinating to see the Qur’an teach that the Bible is reliable and unable to be changed. Why would Mohammed or Allah instruct the followers of Islam that the Bible was given as a guide and unable to be changed? If Islam began in the 6th century, how can the Islamists claim the Bible was corrupted in the 1st century, and yet state its reliability in the Qur’an?

Qur’an 3:3

He hath revealed unto thee (Muhammad) the Scripture with truth, confirming that which was (revealed) before it, even as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel. (3) Aforetime, for a guidance to mankind; and hath revealed the Criterion of right and wrong.

Qur’an 10:94

And if thou (Muhammad) art in doubt concerning that which We reveal unto thee, then question those who read the Scripture (that was) before thee.

Qur’an 7:157

Those who follow the messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write, whom they will find described in the Torah and the Gospel (which are) with them. He will enjoin on them that which is right and forbid them that which is wrong.

Qur’an 5:68

Say O People of the Scripture! Ye have naught (of guidance) till ye observe the Torah and the Gospel and that which was revealed unto you from your Lord.

Why would Allah instruct Mohammed in this way if the Bible was corrupted in the 1st century? The Qur’an instructs Muslims again and again to read the Christian Scriptures. In fact, the Qur’an explains that no one can change the words of Allah, which begs the question…than who could have altered them?

Qur’an 6:114-115

Shall I seek other than Allah for judge, when He it is Who hath revealed unto you (this) Scripture, fully explained? Those unto whom We gave the Scripture (aforetime) know that it is revealed from thy Lord in truth. So be not thou (O Muhammad) of the waverers. (114) Perfected is the Word of thy Lord in truth and justice. There is naught that can change His words. He is the Hearer, the Knower

Qur’an 18:27

And recite that which hath been revealed unto thee of the Scripture of thy Lord. There is none who can change His words, and thou wilt find no refuge beside Him

This is what David Wood http://www.answeringmuslims.com calls the Islamic dilemma. If the Bible is true and God’s word – Islam is false, because Islam preaches another gospel. If the Bible is false and not the Word of God, then Islam is false because the Qur’an points to the Bible. Either way…Islam is false. Oh, I don’t know…I think Mohammed should have thought that one through a bit better!

“The Apostasy”

  jumma

II Thessalonians 2:3

“Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first…”

Modern day prophecy teachers frequently steer their followers to look at the condition of the culture in America as proof that the return of Jesus is near. Now I am in agreement that the return of Jesus is near, but their attention on American culture needs to be refocused.

Merriam-Webster defines “apostasy” as a renunciation of religious faith. Has the United States made a renunciation of Christian faith? Certainly many in America have. One could even make the argument that our government is hostile to Christianity. But According to a 2008 Gallup poll, 78% of Americans identify themselves as Christians. Although many may not be living their lives as Christ would, their backslidden ways, although problematic, are not renunciations of their Christian faith.

So what is this apostasy Paul is warning us about in the letter to the Thessalonians?

In order to understand what Paul was referring to we need to look to the Middle East. When prophetic verses in the Bible are evaluated in light of history and the Middle East everything begins to come in crystal clear.

Christianity continued to spread throughout the Middle East and Europe on the heels of Paul’s three missionary journeys. Churches sprang up throughout the world. It was not until the introduction of Islam that the apostasy began. Today in the Middle East Islam dominates the region. Christianity has been decimated. The apostasy, or falling away, Paul talked about has been in full force for over 1,400 years. If only those apostates had heeded Jesus warning:

Matthew 24:13

“But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.”

To understand how this happened to the Christian world we need to understand what motivated the Islamists and what the Christians had to endure after the introduction of Islam to their living environments. Islam is supremacist by nature. The Qur’an states that Islam must reign supreme. Through Jihad and the introduction of a group of rules governing the living conditions for Non-Muslims Islam easily pounded submission into the consciousness of the infidel.

The Islamists that moved into new territories typically gave occupants of a given culture three options. Option number one was to convert to Islam. The second option for the occupant was execution if they would not convert to Islam or submit to Islamic authority. The final option was for those who did not want to convert to Islam but were willing to submit to the authority of Islamic law. These people were willing to live as second-class citizens and abide by Islamic rules governing their way of life and behavior. They also had to pay a poll tax called the Jizya. This was in accordance with Islamic Law.

Qur’an 9:29

“Make War on those who have received the Scriptures [Jews and Christians] but do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day. They do not forbid what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden. The Christians and Jews do not follow the religion of truth until they SUBMIT and pay the poll tax [Jizya], and they are HUMILIATED.”

These second-class citizens, Dhimmis, were a great source of revenue for the Islamists. Dhimmis also had a variety of restrictions imposed on them by the Islamists. These rules (sometimes called the Treaty of Omar, Pact of Umar, or Conditions of Omar) restricted the Dhimmis from:

  1. Building or repairing churches
  2. Worshipping the God of the Bible publicly
  3. Displaying crosses or Bibles
  4. Clanging cymbals, ringing church bells, or singing hymns that Muslims may hear.
  5. Riding on horses
  6. Proselytizing
  7. Blasphemy (Any statements critical of Mohammed or Islam)

These rules of Dhimmitude also had some requirements for the infidel:

  1. Dhimmis must maintain a humble attitude
  2. Dhimmis must cut the hair from the forehead
  3. Dhimmis must wear certain clothes and a belt to identify themselves
  4. Dhimmis must offer lodging for Muslims
  5. Dhimmis must keep homes lower than Muslim homes.

Bill Warner makes this observation in his book, A Self-Study Course on Political Islam:

“The actual attitude of Islam toward the dhimmis was more contempt than hatred, and over time the dhimmis disappeared. They either left or converted. It was too hard to be a second-class citizen, and the extra taxes were a burden. As time went on, both Christians and Jews became more Arabic in their outlook; they started to treat women as the Arabs did and their customs became more and more Islamic. Finally it was easier to accept Islam as their religion and stop all the pressure and contempt.”

These people were true apostates. They had renounced their faith completely. Jesus warned us to endure to the end. He warned us that we would be hated and experience persecution. Many failed to heed Jesus’ warnings. That is how the apostasy has come and how Islam has come to dominate the once Christian world of the Middle East.

Here is the point. It appears that Christians have two options available when confronted with Islamic governance. Christians may choose to maintain their faith and NOT submit to Islamic authority. Many have chosen this path

Rev 6:9-11

“I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained; and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, would be completed also.”

The other option is to follow the words of Jesus:

Matthew 24:13

“But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.”

Apostasy should NEVER be an option!

Will The U.S. Dollar Fail and Be Replaced By A One World Currency?

images

“The economy is crumbling…the Dollar will fail and be replaced…the U.S. economy will be handed over to the antichrist.” If you have ever read anything about Bible prophecy I am sure you have heard statements such as this. These types of comments are uttered so often one would think they are actually written about in the Bible. The people who write and read the books that make these sorts of statements claim that they are; but are they really?

I believe it is high time for people who call themselves Christians to learn to discern information that they hear and read in books from information actually written in the Bible. Christians need to stop carrying the torch for those that are basing their beliefs on things that are not validated by Scripture.  This view about the U.S. economy is a case in point.

Bible teachers that write and speak about Bible prophecy continue to parrot each other and repeat the same “bad” information so often that Christians treat these positions as if they are based in Biblical Truth. To disagree with them would be to “disagree with the Bible.” I reject that assertion. If we are all seeking the Truth of Scripture we need to be discerning enough, and mature enough, to follow the information to a logical conclusion, even if it contradicts our preconceived positions.

This is especially true in the case of Bible prophecy. A challenger to ones preconceived views is often viewed as a “heretic,” just because the view has been held as “Biblical Truth” for such a long time. I will address many of these false “truths” in the course of writing this blog.

To be sure, our economy is in shambles. Our debt is out of sight and our impotent government continues to make the Dollar weaker. Is this indicative of a fulfillment of Bible prophecy, or is it just more evidence of a rouge and fiscally irresponsible government?

What we must first understand is that the Bible is a collection of books with the Middle East as its focus. Americans have been conditioned to view the Bible through American lenses. We need to change our glasses and view the Bible the way God intended it to be viewed. Most of us grew up with an “American” view of the Bible, but the focus of the Bible is always on Jerusalem, Israel, and the nations surrounding Israel. That is why books written about the United States and Bible prophecy should have empty pages. The United States is not the focus of God’s prophetic plan. Read your Bible if you do not believe this, not the books written by prophecy teachers.

Now, onto to our case study. How do these teachers come to conclusion that the U.S. economy will fail and the U.S. Dollar will cease to exist? The first problem associated with the idea that the U.S. Dollar will fail is the idea that the antichrist will rule over the entire world. This is false for a number of reasons. Walid Shoebat addressed this very topic in a wonderful article entitled Where is America in Bible Prophecy?  These prophecy teachers conclude,  “If a one-world-government controls the economy, they will implement a single form of currency. After all, isn’t that what the European Union did?” In addition to this view of a one-world-government, there is one verse that prophecy teachers use to show a single world monetary system and the collapse of the American Dollar.

Rev 13:17

17 “and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name.”

Now I ask you…is there any place in this verse that talks about the U.S. Dollar or any other currency? The fact is, this verse is discussing individuals inability to purchase items NOT because of the currency they hold, but because of their allegiance and loyalty to Jesus. Let me put it this way. It does not matter what currency you hold when you enter Costco to shop. In the Untied States the Dollar is used. In Mexico, it is the Peso. The important thing needed in order to shop at Costco is not the currency. If a shopper does not have a Costco Card, the shopper will not even enter the store to shop. In the same way, followers of Jesus will not be able to buy or sell under this system.

I recently talked to a missionary visiting our church from Chad, Africa. His ministry was to Muslims in the area. I asked him what the attitude towards Christians was as a result of the Arab Spring across the Middle East. His response was a little bit surprising. He mentioned how the Muslims he dealt with were not violent towards them, but they were forced to buy all of their supplies from Muslim businesses. Is it such a stretch to think that the Islamists would not even allow Christians to purchase items from them? This is already happening in many areas of the Muslim world.

This is just one verse that is used to perpetuate a wrong view of Biblical Eschatology. As Christians, we need to be diligent to study God’s Word and distinguish fact from fantasy. It won’t be easy; there are many that are entrenched in a false narrative that they have been following for years. I know, I was one of them.

Christian Tragedy in the Muslim World

Very important topic that all Christians should be aware of. This information cannot be spoken of too often. The U.S. is certain to follow unless we share this information when we hear about it. Knowledge is the enemy of the Islamists.

Christian Persecution by Muslims 2

“Few people realize that we are today living through the largest persecution of Christians in history, worse even than the famous attacks under ancient Roman emperors like Diocletian and Nero.”

By: Bruce Thornton / Human Events.com

Few people realize that we are today living through the largest persecution of Christians in history, worse even than the famous attacks under ancient Roman emperors like Diocletian and Nero. Estimates of the numbers of Christians under assault range from 100-200 million. According to one estimate, a Christian is martyred every five minutes. And most of this persecution is taking place at the hands of Muslims. Of the top fifty countries persecuting Christians, forty-two have either a Muslim majority or have sizeable Muslim populations.

The extent of this disaster, its origins, and the reasons why it has been met with a shrug by most of the Western media are the topics of Raymond Ibrahim’s…
